Mole Removal
When pigment-producing cells in the skin (melanocytes) grow in groups, skin growth called moles are developed. They appear as small, pigmented spots or raised dark bumps on the skin’s surface. Moles can be easily removed using laser, which offers a safe & effective alternative to traditional methods.

The benefits of laser mole removal
At Dr. Amna’s clinics, we offer CO2 laser to eliminate unwanted moles which offers the following benefits:
Non-Invasive & Safe
It is safe for all skin types and skin tones. It doesn’t require any injections or incisions which have a risk of scarring and infection.
Fast
Laser mole removal is quick and efficient with each session lasting around 10 – 20 minutes, depending on the number of moles.
Quick Healing
The procedure stimulates the body’s natural healing process, allowing the treated area to recover efficiently and reducing the time needed for complete recovery.
Minimal Scarring
Thanks to its precise and controlled approach, there is minimal scarring.
Minimal Downtime
Patients can swiftly return to their daily activities without interruption, ensuring convenience for the patient.
Precise Targeting
The mole is targeted with focused laser energy, which ensures there is no damage to the nearby skin.
How does laser mole removal work?
Laser mole removal works by directing a focused beam of light onto the mole, which breaks down the pigmented cells without affecting the surrounding skin. The laser energy targets the melanin in the mole, gradually fading or completely removing it. The procedure is precise and controlled, offering a safe and effective way to eliminate unwanted moles.
What happens during the procedure?
Prior to performing the procedure, a comprehensive evaluation of the mole is conducted to determine its eligibility for laser removal. The area is numbed using either numbing cream or a small injection (lidocaine) to make the process more comfortable.
During the treatment, the mole is targeted with a carefully coordinated laser beam. The laser energy breaks down the mole leaving behind a smooth and blemish free surface. After the procedure, the area of the skin where the mole was previously present, will have a small red mark. This will be covered with an ointment to prevent infection & promote healing. Eventually, the red mark will transform into a tiny scab that will naturally slough off, revealing a smooth surface. It is highly recommended to protect yourself from the sun both before and after the treatment.
What type of moles are most suitable for laser treatment?
Moles which are slightly raised from the surface of the skin benefit more from laser treatment. It is more difficult and riskier to treat moles that are highly pigmented (dark) and large. This is because laser cannot go in deep to remove the pigment cells. If there are concerns about melanoma risk, moles may require a biopsy for further evaluation. In such cases, the traditional surgical approach for mole removal might be recommended since laser treatment does not provide tissue samples for laboratory testing.
When will the results be visible and how long is the recovery time?
Fortunately, complete mole removal can be achieved in a single treatment. However, in some cases, up to 3 sessions maybe required depending on the depth of the mole. As the treated area heals, you might experience slight irritation and redness for the first 3 – 7 days. Facial moles take around 1 – 2 weeks to heal, which body moles may take slightly longer i.e., around 2 – 4 weeks to heal.
Do moles reappear after being removed?
In general, if a mole is completely removed with laser treatment, it is unlikely to reappear. However, there is a small chance of mole recurrence if any residual cells are left behind during the removal process. It is important to follow up with regular skin checks and consult with a dermatologist if any new moles or changes in the treated area are noticed.
Aftercare instructions for laser mole removal treatment:
- Avoid picking scabs and allow natural healing.
- Protect the treated area from excessive sunlight with sunblock and clothing.
- Follow a gentle skincare routine, avoiding rigorous washing.
- Wait for the scab to fall off before applying makeup (around 10-14 days).
What are the possible side effects of laser mole removal?
Potential side effects of laser mole removal are similar to the ones in other laser treatments. Minor side effects are common. They include:
- Swelling and slight redness
- Burns and blisters
- Skin discoloration (rarely permanent)
- Temporary irritation
